John Hendrie urges Bradford City not to be tempted by offers for James Hanson

James Hanson is back among the goals for Bradford City James Hanson is back among the goals for Bradford City

City have been urged to build their future around James Hanson and not think about cashing in on him.

Phil Parkinson has got Hanson playing his best football since his debut year in the league. That form is attracting inevitable rumours of other clubs sniffing round.

Stuart McCall wanted to re-sign him for Motherwell last season and Southend are thought to be monitoring Hanson’s progress.

City are in the box seat because he still has two more years on his contract to run after this one. But club legend John Hendrie, who has mentored the big striker, hopes they will resist any temptation to sell.

There’s no reason James can’t be a key part of a promotion-pushing side here either next year or the year after

John Hendrie

Hendrie said: “I know Stuart would have taken him up the road last summer. He signed Omar Daley and wanted to have James as well but couldn’t afford him.

“James is on the ascendancy again after a dip in form last season and there will be scouts watching if it carries on. But I’d like to think Bradford will hang on to him.

“There’s no reason James can’t be a key part of a promotion-pushing side here either next year or the year after. Bradford will do as well as James Hanson does and vice versa.”

How many times have we heard that about different players down the years??? The next thing we know, they are out of the back door.

Good point Alex. Could it be that he's on his way before the end of the transfer window? Was Deane Smalley signed to replace him and not as competition? Personally, I hope that John Hendrie is simply thinking out loud here, rather than 'knowing something we don't'! Jimmy is a pivotal player for City and we'd be much poorer without him in my opinion. Anyway, here's to 3 points at Bristol today. CTID.

Jimmy H. is beginning to get stronger and better and as you mention, without him City would be a poorer side. He still isn't getting the propper service that he requires to score more goals. After this comment from John H. he might just score a couple today. yes! here's to 3pts at Bristol today. C.T.I.D.

If a good offer comes in I'd sell him. Especially if we can sign two or three decent players with the money.

In recent years before we made it to the Prem, we were a selling club selling our best players to keep our heads above water. Now we have dropped down to the lower reaches again,we have a manager who is wanting to build a squad to get B.C.F.C. out of this Lg. We have a very young squad of players who can do the job for us. WHY???? should we become a selling club once again? Yes We could sell Jimmy H. for a nice price and sign 2 players for the cash we make on him. It's time we said NO to clubs offering cash. As Mr Christie quoted, this season is all about rebuilding and next season WE WILL WIN PROMOTION. Yes, those were his words. I say KEEP Jimmy H. as he will start scorring more goals.

I'd sell him for a bag of grass seed and some fertilizer for the pitch myself. Only joking Hanson lovers

Think your wrong here macca. Any new strikers would be getting the same service Jimmy is. We have had numerous strikers at the club whilst Hanson has been here and none have been as good imo nor have they scored goals. Jimmy is very important imo. What he needs is decent wing play and a partner that can get on the end of the stuff he does. Wells is learning this and has the potential to be a good player also.

We have been searching for decent players for some time and as i say have tried numerous other strikers to no avail. Be careful what you wish for macca.....

If we don't cash in he will run his contract down and will leave for nothing. Why would he stay? Its not like we have any chance of promotion without a cash input in the next five years. Sometimes you have to sell an asset to strengthen.

Whilst that maybe i don't think that on this occasion IF all of any money we received for Hanson were reinvested it wouldn't be enough. hanson has over 2 years left i think so there's plenty of time. Other teams have got promoted and/or at least in the play-offs without major financial investment. Whast needed is good mangement on and offf the pitch. Money would make it easier, just look at Crawley, but it can be done without.....

This is our fifth year and to be honest, besides the big push by Stuart don't seem to be getting any closer to getting out of this league. Unless we go down i can only see us rotting in this league for some years yet.

Too many managerial changes each manager with their own ideas as to what is needed and then making too many changes. They rip-up what went before, stay in the job 5 mins, leave, and then we start again, then again, then again! It's not change itself that is the problem, it's the inconsistency brought about by those changes. Every manager we bring in seems to have to start from scratch with a whole boat-load of new players, instead of just tweaking here and there and proving they are capable of producing gradual improvement in individual players performances.

I responded in similar vein to yourself on another thread. I can envisage the same happening this summer. We will have to yet again build a squad and the soundbites from the board room suggest they are saving money for this aim.

The continual loans creates this inconsistency you refer to in my eyes. We are unable to buld a momentum or affinity for the club by players. The team changes continually and performances become inconsistent. We'd have been better having a smaller squad and building a tight knit unit with spirit.

As you say a major factor in this process is the constant change of managers. I will always argue that Taylor leaving was a necessity for a variety of reasons. However Stu's wasn't and Jackson was never really in Lawns long term plans i would suggest.

We are now in a position where Parkinson's record is not very good. Whilst i feel there has been an improvement in performance some of his actions have been very responsible in some of the results. Indeed our squad have/are under-achieving. It won't be long before fans are clamouring for change if it continues as it is. The talk of next season will probably keep any action at bay but if we are still not seeing progress by next christmas he will be under extreme pressure to go. I believe that parkinson has made alot of mistakes but also signed some decent players. Luckily most of his failings in the signing department have been the aforementioned loans. To bring in loans over and above our own contracted players suggest to me that this directive may have been instructed to him from above as he took the job. The effective 'freezing' out of the Scottish contingent for instance. IF it has been Parkinson's intention to build a squad of his own players this in turn means further disruption and as you say no continuity of the pitch is been reflected on it.
